NEW ORLEANS (BP)--Fred Luter, pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church in New Orleans, was one of 17 business and civic leaders chosen by Mayor Ray Nagin for the Bring New Orleans Back Commission charged with the assignment of developing a master plan for rebuilding the flood-ravaged city.
The group dined with President Bush and his wife, Laura, at the Italian-Creole restaurant Bacco in the French Quarter Oct. 10 and had the opportunity to express their concerns and ideas with the nation's leader. |

New Orleans pastor views Katrina's toll: 'We're gonna rebuild'
Sep 16, 2005

NEW ORLEANS (BP)--Tied to a safety harness, Fred Luter leans toward the rescue helicopter's doorway and scans the water-soaked horizon for the New Orleans church he has led since 1986.
Joined by Southern Baptist Convention President Bobby Welch and David Hankins, executive director of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, Luter and his companions have faces that express wary curiosity. |

Tears of a pastor
After seeing Franklin Avenue Baptist Church seemingly afloat in stinking water, pastor Fred Luter dries his eyes while aboard a chopper flying him and others over New Orleans. “We're gonna rebuild. We're gonna rebuild,” he later said.
